AMC 8 

The contest is suitable for students from Primary 4 (GEP) to Sec 2 (up to age 14.5 years).

Grade 8/Sec 2 and below

Students have to complete 25 multiple-choice questions within 40 minutes.

Each question is worth 1 mark.

NO penalties for blank/incorrect answers.

NO calculator is allowed.

Students taking the AMC 8 in Grade 6 & below with a score of 15/25 will be eligible for the Young Achievers Certificate

AMC 10A/B

Students taking the AMC 10A/B Contest have to be aged 17.5 years and below 

 

 

Grade8/Sec 2 and below

Students have to complete 25 multiple-choice questions within 40 minutes.

6 points for correct answer, 1.5 points for blank, 0 for incorrect.

NO penalties for incorrect answers.

NO calculator is allowed.

The AMC 10 covers mathematics normally associated with grades 9 and 10. The AMC 10 assumes knowledge of elementary algebra; basic geometry knowledge including the Pythagorean Theorem, area and volume formulas; elementary number theory; and elementary probability. What are excluded are trigonometry, advanced algebra, and advanced geometry.  

Students taking the AMC 10 in Grade 8 & below with a score of 90/150 will be eligible for the Young Achievers Certificate

AMC 12A/B

Students taking the AMC 12A/B contest have to be aged 19.5 years and below 

Grade 12/JC 2 and below

Students have to complete 25 multiple-choice questions within 40 minutes.

6 points for correct answer, 1.5 points for blank, 0 for incorrect.

NO penalties for incorrect answers.

NO calculator is allowed.

The AMC 12 covers the entire high school mathematics curriculum including the above as well as trigonometry, advanced algebra, and advanced geometry but excludes calculus.

Students taking the AMC 12 in Grade 10 & below with a score of 90/150 will be eligible for the Young Achievers Certificate

AIME

Qualify for AMC10 and/or AMC12

The American Invitational Mathematics Examination (AIME) is a challenging competition offered for those who excelled on the AMC 10 and/or AMC 12.

The AIME is a 15-question, 3-hour examination, each answer is an integer number between 0 to 999.

 

The American Invitational Mathematics Examination (AIME) is a challenging competition offered for those who excelled on the AMC 10 and/or AMC 12. The questions on the AIME are much more difficult than those on the AMC 10 and AMC 12. 

Top-scoring participants on the AIME are invited to take the USAMO or USAJMO.
